BLUESTAR^® has been tested on a wide range of surfaces: metals, plastics, fabrics, papers, stones, coatings—both porous and non-porous, natural or synthetic. Most materials give excellent results.

Some false positives have been observed, with varnished wood and a few plants (e.g., thyme). Studies have also tested common household, food, and chemical products. Proper training is essential to distinguish false positives from real blood reactions.
