Identi-HEM®
BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM® is a rapid immunochromatographic test specifically designed for the detection of human hemoglobin.
It is primarily intended for forensic technicians who have identified bloodstains at a crime scene and need to quickly determine whether the blood is of human origin before submitting the sample for laboratory analysis.
Highly sensitive and easy to use on-site, the test specifically reacts with human hemoglobin.
A positive result indicates a high probability of human blood. Laboratory analysis will later confirm or invalidate this result.
Product codes: VD-HEM-24 (box of 24) and VD-HEM-6 (box of 6)
Principle
Hemoglobin is one of the key components of blood and is a reliable marker even in very small quantities.
BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM® uses a combination of monoclonal antibodies bound to colloidal gold and polyclonal antibodies fixed to a solid phase to ensure high sensitivity and specificity for human hemoglobin.
The sample is collected using the sterile swab and placed in the extraction buffer. Four drops of the mixture are then added to test cassette. If human hemoglobin is present, a wine-colored test line appears.
If no hemoglobin is present, only a control line appears in the “C” zone to confirm proper function.
Sensitivity
The test can detect hemoglobin at concentrations as low as 0.01 µg/ml after dilution in the extraction buffer.
Cross-reactivity
No reaction occurs with hemoglobin from ox, pig, rabbit, horse, sheep, beech marten, or pine marten.
European polecat blood produces a very faint reaction.
Other human blood components such as albumin, haptoglobin, myoglobin, and transferrin do not react.
A positive result does not constitute absolute proof of human blood but indicates a high probability of its presence.
Content
- 1 collection tube with 2 ml of extraction buffer
- 1 sterile swab
- 1 test device
Instructions for Use
- Collect the suspected blood sample using the sterile swab
- Insert the swab into the tube with the extraction buffer
- Apply four drops of the mixture to the round well of the test device
- Read the result within 10 minutes
- One wine-colored line in the control area (“C”) indicates a negative result
- Two wine-colored lines indicate the presence of human hemoglobin
Storage
Store all components in a dry place between 2°C and 30°C (39°F to 90°F)
