What are the differences between BLUESTAR® OBTI and BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM®?
- Sensitivity:
- OBTI: 0.05 µg/mL
- Identi-HEM®: 0.01 µg/mL (higher sensitivity)
- Specificity:
- Identi-HEM® reacts to certain animal blood, especially from the mustelid family (e.g., martens, polecats).
- Packaging:
- Identi-HEM® includes a sterile swab for sample collection.
- OBTI uses an attached piece inside the cap of collection tube.
- Shelf life:
- OBTI: 18 months from factory dispatch
- Identi-HEM®: 36 months from factory dispatch
Does BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM® require special storage conditions?
Yes. Store in a dry environment at temperatures between 39°F and 86°F (4°C to 30°C).
How long is a sample stable after collection with Identi-HEM®?
Once collected, the sample remains stable at room temperature (4°C to 30°C), but should be ideally tested within 7 days.
Can I use BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM® after applying BLUESTAR® Forensic multiple times?
Yes. You can apply BLUESTAR® Forensic several times to a suspected blood trace and still obtain valid results with BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM®.
Will BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM® react with synthetic blood?
No. It only gives a positive result in the presence of human hemoglobin. It does not detect synthetic or animal blood.
