What does the acronym “OBTI” stand for?
OBTI stands for Occult Blood Test Immunochromatographic.
What are the differences between BLUESTAR® OBTI and BLUESTAR® Identi-HEM®?
- Sensitivity:
- OBTI: 0.05 µg/mL
- Identi-HEM®: 0.01 µg/mL (more sensitive)
- Specificity:
- Identi-HEM® reacts to certain animal blood, especially from the mustelid family (e.g., martens, polecats).
- Packaging:
- Identi-HEM® is supplied with a sterile swab.
- OBTI uses an attached piece inside the cap of the collection tube.
- Shelf life:
- OBTI: 18 months from factory dispatch
- Identi-HEM®: 36 months from factory dispatch
Does BLUESTAR® OBTI require special storage conditions?
Yes. Store in a dry place at temperatures between 39°F and 86°F (4°C to 30°C).
How long does it wait to read an OBTI test ?
- A positive result usually appears within 3 to 10 minutes after activating the test.
- After 10 minutes, a test can be considered negative if no second line appears.

Can I use BLUESTAR® OBTI after applying BLUESTAR® Forensic several times on the same area?
Yes. Multiple BLUESTAR® Forensic sprays do not prevent you from getting reliable results with BLUESTAR® OBTI.
Will BLUESTAR® OBTI react with synthetic blood?
No. BLUESTAR® OBTI only reacts to human hemoglobin and does not detect synthetic or animal blood.
