OBTI®
BLUESTAR® OBTI is the perfect complement to BLUESTAR® Forensic.
This rapid immunochromatographic test presumes that a bloodstain is of human origin. A positive result indicates a strong likelihood of human blood, helping investigators decide whether or not to collect a sample as evidence. Laboratory analysis will later confirm or refute this presumption.
BLUESTAR® OBTI is an evolution of Hexagon OBTI. Both products share the same formula, production site, and manufacturing quality.
Product code : HU-829 (x24) and HU-830 (x6)
Principle
Human hemoglobin in the sample reacts with red-colored particles coated with monoclonal anti-human hemoglobin antibodies. This complex migrates to the test zone, where it is captured by immobilized secondary antibodies, forming a pink test line in case of a positive result.
Unreacted components migrate further and bind to a second line with anti-mouse IgC antibodies, creating a red control line that confirms proper function and handling of the test. The test detects whole blood at dilutions up to 1:2,000,000. As few as 250 red blood cells are sufficient for a positive result.
It can detect hemoglobin concentrations as low as 0.05 µg/ml.
Falses positives
The following animal blood samples did not react with BLUESTAR® OBTI: cattle, pig, sheep, goat, rabbit, chicken, duck, goose, turkey, guinea pig, red deer, cat, dog, beech marten, and pine marten.
Positive results were observed with blood from primates (including gorilla) and certain mustelids such as weasel, ferret, European polecat, and badger.
Badger blood reacts weakly at 200 µg/ml, and horse blood at concentrations above 500 µg/ml. Therefore, a positive result indicates a high probability of human blood but is not absolute proof.
Content
- 1 collection tube with transport medium
- 1 test device per unit
Instructions for Use
Transfer the sample into the collection tube. Shake gently, then apply exactly 3 drops into the round sample well (S).
A single red line indicates a negative result (test working properly but no human blood detected).
Two red or pink lines indicate the detection of human hemoglobin.
Results are visible within 3 to 10 minutes. Never read results after 10 minutes for accuracy.
